33

My new age.

Happy birthday to me or so I thought were the words my dad was going to tell me when he called me at 7am. However, instead what came out was "Tom just got rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest. His daughter found him this morning. He wasn't breathing. We don't know how he is, but it doesn't sound good"

Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to Christy, Happy birthday to me.

Tom: My "boss" of 6 years. Sort of in a round about way, got Mike and I together...or at least answered all of the inquiries Mike made to him about me correctly.

Never showed up to company functions or friendly functions. But showed up to my wedding. And it was mentioned to me more than once "I can't believe Toms is coming to your wedding!" " I can't believe Tom is here"

He sat in the back and was the first person I saw while nervously about to make the turn down the aisle. He gave me a big smile and knowing he was uncomfortable being at my wedding because he hates that sort of thing and yet was there, smiling at me, somehow made me more comfortable at my wedding which I think I would have been more comfortable at, had I been in Vegas getting married by Elvis.

And I will always be grateful to him for that smile...And all of the other ones he caused me to have at work every day for 6 years.

When it came time that I had to pass my job on to someone else, I trained my replacement....his future daughter in law.

So, the way I spent the last 11 years of my life, and true to construction form, I am going to get my groggy ass up at 4:15 am, handle some crap around here, get ready to go, and fight ridiculous traffic with my coffee, in a ridiculous 2 1/2 hour commute, making sure to curse in my head to at least one other driver...to say goodbye...and then upon arriving home, crack open a Coors Light, and say Cheers!

I am so sorry sweetie! There are no words. It's not often that you connect with a boss like that. He sounded like a great guy that left lasting impressions with many. Love you girl and hang in there! XOXO!!
